PropertyPhotos

PropertyPhotos is a subscription-based service which allows property managers to manage their marketing content, as well as order new custom content for their commercial properties. Users can select from a wide range of offerings including photography, videography, virtual tours, 3D renderings and floor plans.

Problem

Target

When users placed an order through PropertyPhotos, they would need to communicate with a content coordinator via email until their assets were created and delivered to them. Customer service received frequent calls from users inquiring about the status of their order.

Property Manager

Property Managers have many responsibilities. Managing marketing content may not be a top priority. They need a feature that they can glance at to quickly see the status of an order.

Marketing Coordinator

One of the primary responsibilities of a Marketing Coordinator is to manage content. They may require more detailed information about an order than a Property Manager would.

 The Team

I met regularly with the Product Owner, Front-End Developer, and Development Manager on this project. I was also able to work with a UX Researcher when it came time to test the prototype.

What I brought to the table

Site Audit

Identified ADA compliance issues and proposed reducing the number of type styles and colors.

Design Library

Building a library early on ensured that my designs were consistent, and allowed me to be more efficient.

Once the library was built I was able to design screens quickly.

 Defining the Problem

I began working on the order tracker by interviewing our internal content teams who interact with users on a daily basis. Each product that PropertyPhotos offers had a distinct process to produce the assets. I was able to divide these processes into the four steps below.

Plan, Create, Review & Approval, and Summary

Ideating

To accommodate the variation needed for the existing product flows, I focused on creating a modular, highly flexible design. This ensured that the feature would be scalable when additional product flows were added.

 Prototype

I created a modular design for the “Plan” phase of the process. Steps could easily be switched in and out depending on what information we needed from the user to create their content. Modules were completed in an aside.

Completed assets were be uploaded into PropertyPhotos for the user to approve, or request edits.

The order tracker tool was designed to accommodate multiple rounds of edits. Once all assets had been approved they were be available for the user to download.

Results

This project taught me how valuable the knowledge of subject matter experts is. I started by communicating with people who speak to users on a daily basis, and because of that our first round of usability testing was successful.
